Course Outline: Digital Graphic Design
This two year program teaches students how to become designers in year one and web developers in year two. Upon completion of year one, students will know how to create print applications. Students will learn how to create designs for web application and CDRom production. Students will learn how to create web pages and CDRoms. Finally, students will learn to produce desktop video. At the end of the first year, all students must take part in summer workshops or job training.
Students will be able to produce high-quality web sites upon completion of this program. There are two major focuses to this program: 1) designing effective web sites to deliver business applications over the internet, and 2) produce 3D art and animation apllications. All students will be required to complete 8 weeks of job training.

FUN1811 - (120 hours) Introduction to Computer Fundamentals
This course is a combination of courses, which will give the student a sound understanding of the working of a personal computer and its functionality. Topics will include Microsoft Office Suite of Products, Microsoft DOS and Windows, mathematics for the IT Industry, Project Management Fundamentals and the hardware construction of a PC.
ITC1811 - (120 hours) Information Technology Concepts I - Programming and Database Administration
This combination of courses will give the student the tools to problem solve using techniques used in the programming field. Visual Basic will be used as the program to convey these principles. This program is meant as an introduction to programming. In addition the student will learn the principles of database design and construction using Microsoft Access.
ITC1821 - (120 hours) Information Technology Concepts II - Networking and Web Design
The first part of this course is to teach the student fundamentals of graphic design with an emphasis on color management. The student learns image manipulation, and the importing and exporting of an image. In this portion of the course will include the design of a web enough to design their won web site. The second half of this course will introduce the student to computer networking using Novell's NDS 4.11 architecture. This portion is part of the instructional material for the CAN program
MMD1811 - (120 hours) Introduction to Multimedia Tools and Concepts
This course introduces students to the tools and concepts related to the field of multimedia. The course has two main themes: 1) discussion of the software used, and 2) theories dealing with multimedia. The software portion deals with the specific type of software that will be used throughout the year: The theory portion will discuss topics such as: typography, color theory, vector art, rastor art, visual literacy, equipment use, story boarding, script writing and industry expectations.
MMD1821 - (120 hours) Desktop Publishing
Students will learn the powerful capabilities of Adobe Pagemaker as a design and typographical tool. Topics include: Pagemaker tools, preferences, typographic controls, formatting graphics, image control working with spot and process colors, scanning graphics, using templates and trapping for output. Students should be able to create several projects demonstrating the key functions of Pagemaker. Projects will include advertisements, newsletters, page layouts with images and illustrations, and reports.
MMD1831 - (120 hours) Digital Imaging
This course will introduce the student to Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. With Photoshop students learn to produce and process digital images using the many tools and functions of Photoshop. Projects will include retouching, image manipulation, compositing and digital illustration. With Illustrator students will learn to produce artwork for use in print and electronic media. Projects will include creating illustrations, logo design, and icon creation.
MMD1841 - (120 hours) Authoring
Students will learn to use Macromedia Director with Lingo to produce work for CDRom or web applications. Macromedia is used to create interactive multimedia. Students will create projects of interactive nature. Topics include learning how to create and work with animated cast members, using Lingo to include events and messages, handlers, and the object hierarchy, and lists and behaviors.
MMD1861 - (120 hours) Video Production
Using Adobe Premiere, students will learn desktop video editing, audio mixing, transitions, special effects, video capture and compression to create video for CDRom and the web. Assignments will include production of short edited videos. Students will also be introduced to After Effects to give their added special effects.
MMD1861 - (120 hours) Web Design
This course will introduce students to web page design. Students will learn the basics to HTML to create web pages. Javascripts, Flash and other tools will be looked at to give some extra effects to the Web pages. The projects in this course will be to create web sites.
PRM1811 - (120 hours) Project Management
This course is designed to introduce students to group projects. Over this four-week period, the student will be assigned several projects related to their field of study. They will be responsible for electing team leaders, completing projects on time, and making reports and presentation on the work they performed. Students will be required to interact with many of their classmates in many different roles.
